How to turn off Animations in MIUI 12?

Image
MIUI 12 introduced a lot of animations within apps across the system UI. For example, navigating to the battery settings will show an animation where a battery is filled till the current level. There are also a lot of animations while switching between apps, minimising app, launching app, going back in Settings, etc... While these animations do look nice, they can make a low end mobile phone slower. You can set a system preference to remove animations which will in turn most of these animations. Some UI elements like the About page will still show some animations. Not all the System elements respect this setting, but it works across most apps. To turn off these animations, Go to Settings -> Additional Settings -> Accessibility Select Vision from the top header. Under Display section, Turn on Remove animations. Solved: Spotify Player icons not displayed properly in MIUI dark mode

Image
Are you facing issues where the media controls in Spotify are not rendered correctly in Redmi smartphones running MIUI 12 & above? This is due to a feature called Enhanced Dark Mode in MIUI 12.  This feature tries to implement dark mode across various apps that don't even have a dark & light mode. This is what breaks the controls in Spotify. If you notice carefully, you'll see that the media controls are indeed there but the seek bar is a black dial on a black bar with black background making it invisible at first glance. The Play button is a white icon on a white background also making it invisible. Here is how to fix this issue Open the Settings app. Go to Display -> More Dark Mode options . Here under Individual apps turn off the Enhanced dark mode for Spotify.

Image
What is God mode? God mode is a shortcut that lists all Control Panel items in Windows grouped by Control Panel categories.  God Mode in Windows Is God mode Useful? While it is not a new functionality it is nice to have a list of all Settings in a single list and was somewhat useful atleast until Windows 10 came. Windows 10 started migrating all Settings to a new Settings app and Control Panel is loosing panel after panel with each update. The God Mode does not include settings from the new Settings app. So it is also becoming less relevant with each update cycle. How to access God mode? Login into a user with Administrator access. Create a new folder anywhere. Rename to new folder to " GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C} " and save it. The folder icon will now change to a Control Panel icon and opening it will open the God mode.

How to turn off ads in DuckDuckGo without adblockers?

Image
Almost every website in the internet has ads (including this blog). It is not a big surprise that DuckDuckGo the privacy oriented search engine also has adverts. But unlike many other website out there, DuckDuckGo allows users to choose whether or not to see ads. Go to DuckDuckGo settings page . Navigate to the General tab. Go to the Advertisements setting and turn it off. Yes, it is that simple. But before you turn the ads off, remember that DuckDuckGo does not personalize your ads. As far as I have seen, they were no animated or video ads that consume your data. They are mostly text based ads. So why should you turn them off? The ads look like search results. If you are setting DuckDuckGo as the default search engine for your parent or relative who might mistake an Ad for search result, you could turn it off. You don't like ads ion general. However in this case it is likely that you already have an adblocker in your browser.

How to fix your unresponsive Android Widgets?

Image
In low end Android mobiles, you can run into the issue of widgets turning unresponsive. For example, a Microsoft ToDo widget might display a blank white page without showing tasks, or a calendar widgets will show a blank page without the events. Any clicks on the widget will not work. But when you open the app or recreate the widget it will work for sometime before going unresponsive again. The main reason for this issue is that the application is closed in the background due to battery optimization. You can set this app to be not battery optimized by Android. Go to Settings. Open the App Info for the particular app you want to optimize. Click on Battery -> Battery Optimization. In the list of app, click on your app and select Don't optimize. If you are using a third party launcher, exempting your launcher from Battery Optimization might also help.

How to set DuckDuckGo to not save searches in browser history?

Image
No I am not taking about the Incognito mode. There is a way to not save your search query to your browser history, if your search engine is DuckDuckGo. Here is how you do it, Go to the DuckDuckGo's Settings page and navigate to the Privacy tab. Alternatively you can click go to the link:  https://duckduckgo.com/settings#privacy Turn off the GET requests setting. That's all. So how it works? As you can see from the screenshot above there are two types of requests here, GET and POST. In simple terms, the GET type of requests send your search query through URL which is then saved by the browser. The data sent by POST requests are not saved by the browser. So why isn't it used by default? First, it causes some inconvenience to the user. For example, when you open a webpage from search result and then go back you will not go to the search result page. You will have to type the search query again for that. Second, it only protects the data from being saved on your own computer
