Windows can get really slow when you are running it on a budget computer. There are certain things & tweaks than can slightly boost the speed on your PC. Disable unwanted startup programs Programs like Adobe Creative Cloud, Spotify, etc.. start in along with Windows and run in the background. Even some built-in apps like OneDrive. Cortana, Skype do this. They all occupy your precious RAM and consume data. To disable the startup programs,  Open Task Manager Go to the Start-up tab. Right click on the program you want to disable and click disable. Turning off background apps This only works for apps that are installed via Microsoft Store. You can turn off background activities of an app to conserve power and improve performance. Open Settings. Go to Privacy -> Background Apps You can turn off background activity for apps on a case by case basis or in total. We recommend for doing it on a case by case basis. Reducing telemetry data in Windows 10

Windows 10 collects a lot of telemetry data about you and your computer. Here is how to reduce all the telemetry data in Windows 10. Diagnostics Data Open Settings app. Go to Privacy > Diagnostics & Feedback . Change the Diagnostic Data to Basic . Turn off the Tailored Experiences . Ad tracking Open  Settings  app. Go to  Privacy > General . Turn off the toggle " Let apps use advertising ID " and " Allow Windows to track app launches ".

How to turn off Indexing in Windows 10

Windows indexes files and contents that allows you to search for a file in the windows search. For example, you can search for a file in your music library and it will show up in the start menu as libraries are indexed by default. However, if you have a organized folder structure and don't usually search for files, you can disable indexing. Disabling indexing does reduce disk usage. Disabling indexing of file contents Open This PC Right click on a drive and go to Properties. Uncheck the "Allow files on this drive to have its contents indexed in addition to file properties". Removing locations from indexing Search for Indexing Options in the start menu and open it. Click on Modify in the Index Options Windows. Click on "Show all locations" Now uncheck the locations that you don't want to be indexed. I leave the Start menu folder to be indexed as all the program shortcuts are there.

Tweaking Windows Services for performance

Windows has a lot of services that manages everything from Time synchronization to updates. These services run in background and perform a lot of functions that is essential for Windows to run properly. While, it is possible to boost performance by stopping services we might not use, stopping a wrong service might corrupt Windows. There are four types of start-up options for a service Automatic - The service starts with Windows. Automatic (Delayed Start) - These services start with Windows but after the services with Automatic option are loaded. Manual - The services only start when started by a program or user. Disabled - These services cannot be started. Due to the risk of corrupting Windows, we should not be disabling any service that isn't disabled by default. How to disable OEM services in Windows
